In 2022, Bodenverwertungs- und -verwaltungs GmbH (BVVG) will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Since its foundation, its task has been to reprivatise agricultural and forestry land in the so-called new federal states that was expropriated and transferred to public ownership after the Second World War. It is a successor organisation to the Treuhandanstalt and a subsidiary of the Bundesanstalt für vereinigungsbedingte Sonderaufgaben.

35 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the GDR has not yet been completely liquidated. By the anniversary date, there were almost 700 exposés of purchase and rental offers. For the artist's book Bestandsaufnahme, Kai-Hendrik Windeler traced the cadastral plans of the properties offered for sale. In the winter of 2023/24, Kai-Hendrik Windeler and Marcel Raabe undertook several excursions into these post-socialist landscapes. Their travel notes lead through small towns and across fields, but also through collections of decades-old documentary films and overgrown historical signs along country roads.
